The Bottle Room

I have been collecting since I was in High School back in 1968!!  My brother  had been out rabbit hunting west of Salt Lake City and came home with a purple bottle.  We were fascinated and started to ask questions and look around.   Then my mother did some typing for a man that wrote articles for relic magazines and he paid her with a Duffy Malt Whiskey!  I  thought it was the neatest thing I ever saw!  My bottle obsession had begun.
In talking to this gentleman, I started to gather information on how to find bottles.  By the 60's most of the easy dumps had been dug, however, we found that the people stopped before they got to the bottom and you could generally still find a foot or so that had been missed.  So I spent the next few years of my life digging every chance I got.  By scouting gopher holes, we were able to find a few minor dumps that had remained hidden.  So I managed to assemble a reasonable collection anyway.

With family life, my digging daze diminished and I had to resort to buying and trading.  I never specialized and never got rid of  anything, I remember where I dug each one,  and I have always thought it was senseless to leave my collection sitting in boxes.  So I have managed to maintain my bottle room over the years.
I don't have any of the real expensive bottles and only a couple that will bring up to $1000.  But it's a nice selection of a hobby that I truly love.  There is nothing that compares to the colors, the crudity, the character of handmade antique bottles.  They truly are treasures.
I have met many wonderful collectors along the way.  These are the people that have made bottle collecting in Utah something that is worthwhile and rewarding.  Visit their pages under the "Legendary Collectors" heading on the member pages.    We are always interested in Utah items that you come across.  Please contact me if you have found something interesting.
