I was born in Ephraim, Utah.
After graduating from high school, I moved to Sandy, Utah. I was drafted into the US Army – 1963 – 1969. I retired from Kennecott Copper Company after 35 years as a haulage driver and trainer.
I bought my first metal detector in 1966. Some of the metal detectors that I have owned and used over the years are White’s, Ray scope, Gold Bug and Garrett. I now use the White’s DFX & MXT.
Some stories of treasures that I have found over the years. Found an old World war II German machine gun barrel while training on maneuvers in the forest of Southern Bavaria, Germany. It sure cleaned up nice!
I once vacationed on a gold claim about 150 miles north of Fairbanks, Alaska. While there, I found some silver coins, but it turns out my best treasure found there was GOLD! On my last day there, I went for a walk along the edge of a mosquito infested creek. Through the swarms of mosquitoes that surrounded me, I stumbled on to two 5 gallon buckets of GOLD concentrate in the bushes. It seemed that the buckets had been there for a long time, for as I went to pick one up, the rotted bottom fell out. I was very excited about finding such a treasure! I went to get help, but on my way back, I was told that it was their claim and their gold. After they removed both five gallon buckets, I asked them if I could pan out what they did not pick up. I panned out about ½ ounce of gold! Recently, I asked how much gold came from those buckets. As a typical gold miner, his reply was “not much”. Yeah, right..Hahaha!
